i found the comment funny (i guess my sense of humor is somewhat "dark" since i love the clubbing baby seal jokes)

at the same time, i completely understand why ESPN fired him and have no problem with it.

I thought it was funny, but really stupid and inappropriate to say. Sometimes inappropriate things are funny :p I guess John Madden thought he was bigger than he really was... I mean figuratively. He is probably smaller than he thinks he is... in the literal sense.
