*Madden* EA Bought a License to make Garbage

I had been a Madden nut for many, many years; I have owned a bunch of them. Last year I bought NFL 2k5 and was totally impressed. As a former football player, there were some things Madden never improved on, that 2k5 really did well (Blocking, Running Game Improvements, Improved Passing, and very smart defense). Playing Madden 05 just didn?t compare (Very Arcade Style), obviously EA was going to have to improve their product before they started loosing some of their fan base.

I was wrong, when you?re a rich slob; all you have to do is pay enough money so your competition can't challenge your product. Since they bought the NFL license and they are the only ones that can produce an NFL video game, we are in for at least 5 years of basically the same game, and its garbage. Competition is a good thing, monopolizing anything is a bad thing.

Wow, that totally sucks, I did not know this, EA makes great games and I guess they have the power to do this, hopefully the NBA and NHL don't follow suit.

BTW, I agree, I love the 2k5 series

I'm very impressed with Madden 06 so far. Yes, it sucks they are exclusive now, but what can you do. It's better than nothing...

I've been a huge 2k series fan, though have bought some of the Madden games as well over the years.

I did buy Madden 2006, and I'm really annoyed that I did. They barely changed anything from last year, and what they did change they made worse in my opinion.

I'm going to give it a couple more days, but may be putting it up on eBay and waiting to see what Midway does with Blitz: The League. At least that looks entertaining.

I love BF2. Allot of weird bugs like your teammate shows up as an enemy, but that is a VERY fun game.

Interesting...a few years back Take-two implemented some sort of 'first person mode' into QBs for their 2K series...I remember reading people at EA actually saying that that was a stupid idea, that it wouldn't work, etc. Now they are implementing it into Madden?

I swear turning it off doesn't help with accuracy with lower rated QBs... I've thrown a couple ugly ducklings with the vision off.

It's not a first-person mode, it's more akin to classic third-person footballing, although with a cone of "light" to simulate where your QB is looking. Therefore, after your receivers have broken their routes, you can't "see" them to throw to them unless you're looking in their direction. First-person football WAS stupid, though, and will never work until virtual reality headgear becomes a reality (if ever).

Ah, I see. When I read 'QB Vision' I though it was some sort of 'Helmet cam'.

hopefully you'll be forced to set your feet all the time, I find I get better accuracy leading the reciever if my feet aren't set compared to staying in the pocket

First person was alot of fun, atleast in single player. It felt alot like the real thing atleast rushing did. You forget when your wearing a helmet you dont have the normal 180 degrees of vision in real life.

i don't like EA in general. The last EA game i bought was BF1942 a couple months after it came out. I am upset that I paid 50$ for a beta. The current 1.61 is miles ahead better when it first came out, but why should I have to wait 2 additional years for them to iron out the (rather severe) bugs? I was considering to start buying EA, starting with BF2. I'm glad I didn't. Talk about buying another beta that won't be finished for at least another couple years.

NFL2K5 was a breath of fresh air. It wasn't perfect, but better. I mean, year after year, EA said how they had fixed the running game, or fixed the passing game... how many times can you "fix" the same damn thing? I am annoyed that I won't be able to play a new football game this year. Anyone know if NFL2K5 allows you to update the roster... to the point where it represents the 05-06 season? :)

Updating rosters is a good call, I'm sure there will be a roster update available via xbox live or the ps2 way? EA's trouble with Madden is that (IMO) they have a bunch of geeks making a video game. I think 2k5 really had some former football players helping them develope the game. I can betcha if John Madden ever played football he sure as hell could never picked up a Joystick and know sh1t about a video game.

As a long time football game player and fan, I agree with you 110% on your assesment on madden and 2k5. My experiance has been exactly the same.

On the whole EA thing though, I have heard that the buyout had more to do with the NFL than EA.

Regardless of who caused the situation, the consumers are the real losers.

Edit: More info here.

I feel like I have taken a step back after playing 2k5 last year, but yeah its a football game.

I wish I would have rented it instead of buying though. I just finished my regular season *XBOX*, after I win the superbowl you will probibly see it on the FS/FT forum.

I have been a 2k fan since the NFL 2k on the Dreamcast. And picking up Madden 2006, it only solidifies my preference to Sega's product. HOWEVER...

Why hate EA? It was the NFL who offered up the exclusive agreement. If EA didn't bite, then someone else surely would've. EA did the right thing for their company by bidding on the rights. And I don't believe any Madden hater would've done any different if they were in EA's shoes.

Btw, I can only presume those of you are just as unhappy with Take Two, since they have snatched up exclusive rights to MLB.
