Madden 12....

That was my impression as well. As one of the E3 correspondents said, he could tell from the previews last year that NCAA 11 was going to be the king of football games. He said it appears that Madden will be the king of the hill this year. NCAA 11 was certainly a blast and we had fun in our AT NCAA league, but the big issue with it was that it was restricted to 12 human teams which really sucked.

What makes Madden so fancy this year? They try to hype new stuff up every year but IMO most of it is just that... hype.

I'm tempted to get it now that I have more time for gaming, but like the others the idea of $60 for what might not even be a roster update isn't looking good.

I'm one of those Madden people that buys it every year. I think I do it for the updated rosters and the new style of presentation. After you play it as much as I do, you just get tired of looking at the same screens.

I know some complain about the cost but for how much I play it, I can justify the costs. I'm not so attached that I would try and convince people (aka most everyone in this thread) that they should get the new version every year. I just don't think EA's target demographic is people who frequent the Console Gaming forum on Anandtech.

EDIT: This year WILL be a roster update. There are new rookies and free agency WILL have started by the time the disc goes gold. Some players will move teams after it goes gold, but that happens every year -- just be glad you can get online roster updates now instead of doing it by hand like the old days.

Well, I went ahead and preordered it from Amazon. I decided the $20 credit was too much to pass up since I buy almost everything from Amazon now. I hope I don't regret this choice. 😀

*shakes head in disappointment*

I know, I know -- I can still cancel. My brother is getting it too and we're going to have a league so I thought "If I have to buy it, I might as well save $20." I held out and didn't buy Madden 11 and won't buy Madden 13 unless something extreme happens.

I can apply that $20 to my Uncharted3 preorder.

As much as I hate to, I'll pay the $60 every year for the roster update. I'm a diehard Ravensl fan and I just can't play with an old roster. Yes, it really sucks, but I don't really have a choice.

I've gone to an "every 2 years" schedule for my sports games and am trying it with Madden as well (last year I bought was 2010). So far, it seems to work out well for me. The only exception I've made was when I thought my NBA 2K10 disc was bad and bought 2K11 off another ATer, just to find out my 2K10 disc started magically working again after an Xbox update. 😱

Count me in as interested. May have to '12 it looks decent. I have '10 and it's good enough. Depends what time games are and such and how long the quarters are. Is this for PS3 or Xbox? Count me in the former camp.

If a league got off the ground here, it would probably be for the 360. As much as I'd like to do it on the PS3, it seems most people have Xboxes instead. I've pretty much given up on the idea of a successful sports league of any sort on AT after multiple attempts to get them rolling.

I'm picking it up mainly because of the front cover. It's a rare point in NFL history when any related to Cleveland wins something.

You would have probably been OK in the AT Madden 10 league we had that I ran. It was a lot of fun but the problem is that while we got really great response at first (I believe we filled 23 or 24 of the 32 teams in the Madden league), after the first 4 or 5 games, there were less than 10 regulars who kept playing. We made it through 14 or 15 weeks in Madden before calling it quits.

I don't think anyone ran an AT Madden 11 league last year, but I was commissioner of our AT NCAA 11 league and it was a lot of fun but we had the same sort of issue with people dropping out. NCAA's dynasty format wasn't as conducive to a large number of players (you could only have 12 players IIRC) even though the game was great fun.

It would've been interesting to complete a season in either football game. I ended up finishing with the best record in both the Madden and NCAA leagues and it would've been fun to have had human vs. human in the championships.

Sounds like you need to collect $20 from each person. Give most of it back at the end of the season and winner and 2nd place gets a bit extra from those that drop out. It'll drop the number of those interested but at least there'll be something to play for.

Thats a pretty sound idea

That does sound like a good idea but technically speaking, I believe that would violate my employment agreement so I couldn't participate.

... WTF Indy? What do you do that doesn't allow you to... gamble? Also how would they find out?

I don't know about his employment contract, but (unlicenced) organized gambling is illegal in most places. He'd be on a better footing if whoever collects the money doesn't keep any of it.

So, I didn't buy Madden last year and with it looking more and more like we may not have a season, I'm considering buying Madden 12 this year (sorry Cuda!) to get my NFL fix. I've read some summaries of the features and it sounds as if this one may offer some significant improvements, at least over the pile of steaming dung that was Madden 11.

Anyone else looking ahead to Madden 12? Should we try to get another AT league going?

Dude, you play madden? Cool. Only ps3 game I play..

The demo seems "meh." I played it and didn't notice many changes from previous Maddens except that it seems to play faster. IMO, Madden 10 had the perfect speed and they inexplicably decided to speed it up in 11 and 12.
