I just can't see how you guys are coming to this conclusion from the insanely short demo. You haven't even played defense or special teams.

Personally, I'm not ready to say this is the best Madden yet, the demo only shows 5% of the entire game.

Maybe I'm just used to the NCAA style or the previous versions of Madden, but I really disliked the in-game presentation. In particular the new play arrows, the cheesy sound effects when picking a play, and the score display.

I say this because 5% of this demo is 50% better than 100% of Madden 08.

Wait, is this a math question?

That's another thing. Given the criticism of the radio announcer in the past, I can't believe they omitted announcing from the demo. I have to say, though, the gameplay, graphics, and presentation are so good, maybe they know it all speaks for itself. This is the first time I've been excited about an EA football production.

I was excited last year....until I heard about the radio announcer still being featured.

Seriously, I can't believe they had that terrible announcer for 3 years of next gen games! No one liked it! It actually kept me from playing the game, I usually put about 10+ seasons into my Madden franchises, I barely got 1 into 08.

Hmm, I think I'll have to try and hear this announcer guy. I can't imagine how he could be that terrible.

Yes, they added commentary this year, finally. No more stupid radio announcer guy.

Thank god....I HATED the radio announcer.

I really hope they also threw out that John Madden clone PA announcer that would say, "Let's hear it for your defense, fans!", or something close to that. Every time I heard that, I had to fight with myself not to turn off the game.

I ended up selling Madden '08 by mid-September. No 0-day purchase from me for Madden '09.

Ok, I just watched a bunch of 08 videos and you guys are right, the broadcast guy sounds terrible.

Then I went and watched a bunch of 09 videos on GT and damn, it sounds awesome. I'm so happy they have Collinsworth, he's great. I can't believe howmuch the graphics have improved as well, by the look of things. Less than 2 weeks to wait!!

I never felt the announcer was "terrible", but it was as if a huge chunk of the game was missing.

Facebreaker is awful and I have nothing to say about Madden. Besides the graphics, the game still feels like I'm playing '04 again... 90 seconds or not, EA is pretty funny coming up with a really short demo instead of say... a full quarter.

As far as I'm concerned, Facebreaker could've been 20 seconds long and right then and there, you know the game is awful by the time it was all over.

I haven't enjoyed Madden since 2k burst onto the scene (and back then there was what... Blitz & Gameday to pick pre-2k?)

Agreed. I started a quick play game on easy against the girl boxer in the game, and when it started, all that was happening was she would move to the other side of the ring, charge up something with her fist, then hop across the ring and throw about 10 punches in a row that I couldn't block. When she was done, rinse and repeat. Once she knocked me down and was close to knocking me down again with this exact same pattern over and over, without me being able to get hardly any hits on her, I promptly quit the game and deleted the demo.

Yeah, I was really hoping for more out of Facebreaker. That definitely was not it.

Facebreaker was horrible.

Not too crazy about Madden.. the IQ test thing was impossible on defense for me, but cake on offense. Would have liked a whole quarter instead of just one drive.

Haha, same here. It rated me as "All-Madden" for both the offensive tests, Rookie for pass defense, and no rating at all for rush defense.

I guess I am totally useless at defense. Actually that makes sense, since in every football game I've ever played I pretty much just take one of the defensive linemen and push down on the stick after the snap. I rely on my play calling skills and the computer to play defense for me.

I had the same problem with the IQ test. I was All-Madden on offense and Rookie for both Defensive pieces. Maybe I just need more time with it.

I pretty much do that also, take control of the best defensive lineman I have and wreck as much havoc as I can.

I remember in '08 in the defensive minded training camp things, I'd do pretty damn well.

I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who sucks at defense. I thought I was just missing something or doing something horribly wrong. I have a heck of a time trying to break through the line (or get around it) with a Linebacker. Sometimes I play Safety and just hope something comes my way that I can cope with, but I don't DARE take control of a CB, because I can't defend a pass (let alone intercept one) to save my life. It's frustrating as hell, too, because I can get my CB to where the ball is going much faster and more efficiently than the CPU can, but the ball always just goes right through me.

Like someone else said, my contribution to defense is playcalling. After that, it's in the CPU's hands. I really wish defense was more accessible.

Facebreaker was definitely 'meh', but I did enjoy beating the crap out of Kim Kardashian in Practice mode.
