Madden 08

I haven't heard anything about Madden 08...isn't it coming out soon? Will it be another half assed effort by EA? Will they even improve upon anything at all? Are they focusing more on 360/PS3 and forgetting about PS2, Xbox? Gimme' some news.

August 14th is the release date. As far as new stuff, they've basically added everything that has been in the PS2/XBOX versions for years now, and are claiming it to be the big features for this year. Owner mode is one of them, which I've read too many times now as being a main selling point of the game. IMO, it should've been in there two years ago when the 360 launched with Madden 06. You're not going to cut out all the crap we got used to, and then slowly add it back year after year on the new-gen systems and label them as new features.

QFT. EA is pulling the same crap with their NCAA franchise, too. Boo-urns.

If all the good old features like Create-A-Player are back this year, then maybe I'll actually buy Madden 08. As of now the newest football game I own is Madden 03 for PS2. 😱

I only buy the Madden games every three or so years myself, just a waste of money to updated it every year. They should offer upgrades to it for half price, you know changes rosters and player stats etc... The game to me is extremely boring unless playing other people.

Hell I haven't bought a sports game since the 2k5's were out for $20 each. Those were the good ol' days when there was actually competition.

There was only competition because Sega dropped the price to $20 so they could compete.

How come no one is talking about the other new additions and just complaining? Seems like no one here has even looked at thier home site.

-New fatigue system
-New total blocking scheme reviews
-Ability to see the other sides plays if you're calling things right
-New specific roles for each player on team

Seeing as they were rated higher they were better games but it's all in the name. Everyone knows Madden and EA sports. They didn't care which one was better they just wanted the name.

Yup, but they will continue as long as we keep buying. This is why I passed on NCAA 08 this year.

I'm passing on madden ( no pun ) too.. 2K8 will tide me over..

What's the story with the controls? I remember that '07 had the worst new re-vamped controls ever on the PS3. I want them to bring back the old school controls... or at least have the option out there so you can flip it back to old controls. Sure, incorporate controller movement... but you don't have to shift every other button.

This is a huge complaint for NCAA and Madden on next gens. I really hope they have built in a classic controls option, but haven't read anything about it. I think it is gonna have to be a hope for 09.

Just remember, your play by play commentary will be courtesy of Generic Radio Guy 1 (still not Madden and Michaels, why is this game even called Madden anymore?), and in general the game does not look much different than last year.

You know what's weird, I saw the Xbox360/PS3 comparison video on gamevideos.com (you should check it out - really shows you how much better the 360 one looks than the PS3 one) I noticed that you could hear Madden with his witty comments sometimes.

So is that back in the game this time raound? It definitely had the radio announcer guy but I also heard madden making comments.

In real life, Madden is a color commentator while Al Michaels is a play-by-play guy. I think that Modeps was trying to point out that Madden is there but play-by-play is still not Al Michaels. However, "why is this game even called Madden anymore?" throws that theory for a loop.

I thought when the radio announcer guy first came on in 06 (I think it was 06, may have been 05) that there was no longer either Madden OR Michaels, which is where my confusion lies. I thought it was ONLY the radio announcer guy.

You're right.:
The Xbox 360 version of Madden 06 features neither Al Michaels nor Madden in the announcing booth.

I played the original xbox version in 2006 (last one I played) so I was unaware at how badly they screwed up the 360 version. The 2007 Wikipedia entry doesn't seem to mention the commentators.

Not having the commentators is stupid for a football game in this day and age. Personally, I never pay attention to the announcers, but it's still great background noise that gets me more into the game. I like having a television-like broadcast for my sports games.

By the way, I should have an advance copy of Madden either today or tomorrow, so if anyone has any questions about it, I should be able to answer.

just check out the comparison video on gamevideos.com though and you will definitely hear madden talking at a few points in the video.
