Look cool enough for now.
If it has the same quality and immersion as Last of Us i'm buying.

They showed an announcement trailer at E3.

I love the Road Warrior, so I'm hoping this is good.

This is being made by the same people who did Just Cause 2. If that doesn't make you excited, I don't know what will.

Looks interesting, was it ever mentioned anywhere if it's going to be open world or heavily story-driven and mostly linear? I read the Wikipedia page but there's no mention of that specifically. I'll keep an eye on it nonetheless, could be fun.

You had better hope it is based on the timeline of 2 and 3. The original Mad Max was pre-pockyclpse

I don't think the original was released in the US, or at least in theaters. Mad Max is generally associated with The Road Warrior and Beyond Thunderdome.

However, they are making a 4th movie that takes place between the first and second, so the game is likely not going to be set during that time.

The first was really slow. The second was the pinnacle of post-apocalyptica. The third was still good, but more in that cheesey way.

The new film is supposed to be centered around the oil crisis and subsequent collapse of society that happens and gives us the wonderful world of the second film.

Sadly, it has been in development hell for like 25 years and is still having problems. At least, it has Tom Hardy and a release date.

This game will probably take place after this new movie, in the newly collapsed society.

I think it is mostly finished. Last I read they needed to reshoot some things, but primary filming was finished. Barring any post production issues, it should come on. I was surprised Mel Gibson wasn't at least a part of it in some way. The guy might be an anti Semite, but he is the Road Warrior.

He has also been effectively black-balled in Hollywood. Don't expect to see much from him unless he himself finances and produces it.

Well, with just one image from the game, you can tell it isn't based on Mad Max. But, you still had roving games and anarchy in Mad Max--just no apocalyptic hellscape like the sequels.
