MACWORLD: mac $500, ipod HDless for $99, more...

No specs? Seeing as the only (mostly mythical) thing that apples are good for is video editing, I can't imagine any macintosh priced at $500 to be worth it. Seeing as anything that would be worth it would still be eaten alive because of the rough upgradablity.

All that, and not an inch of wasted space. Apple engineers designed this small wonder from the ground up to deliver the most Mac for the least dinero. Inside its petite 2-inch tall, 6.5-inch square anodized aluminum enclosure, Mac mini houses a 1.25 or 1.42GHz G4 processor, 40 or 80GB hard drive, a slot-loading CD-R/DVD-ROM optical drive, 256MB DDR SDRAM and ATI Radeon 9200 graphics chip with 32MB dedicated DDR SDRAM ? all whisper-quiet.

Sounds like a desktop iBook. Pics?

I am all over the $499 Mac. I really like OS X and have been eyeballing Apples PCs for a long time now, time to get one to mess around with 😀

i'm dissapointed over the iPod shuffle.
But I do like the macmini. I might pick one up in the future but the vid card now would strain the system at 1680x1050.

LOL the ipod shuffle sucks...i like how its main marketing point is that it can randomize the song order ..wow thats new

So in other words there is pretty much NO chance for upgrades... which means that unless you are a casual user, the thing is already on it's way out.

I hate to trash apple because I know they make good stuff, but this isn't what I would call competitive.

People rarely upgrade apples anyway, they're not PCs. The most they're gonna do is put a bigger hard drive or more memory in.

It fits well for their target audience, which are the people who don't even know how and have never taken off the side panel of their PCs.

I'm hoping they announce the Sirius / iPod device... but I doubt it because the market is against me.
is there going to be such a device? that would be HUGE for sirius. is this an industry rumor, or just an idea you had floating around?

The iPod Shuffle is useless because it has no LCD display. The Mini looks really cool though, and may be my first ever Apple purchase.

The XM MyFi is pretty expensive, $350 from XM. Add that to the cost of an Ipod and you'd end up with a significantly larger and expensive device, it probably wouldn't sell very well.

"iPod users discovered a new way to listen to their music...shuffle," Jobs said. "With shuffle you don't have to find your music; it's shuffled up for you."
iPod users are pioneers of the listening to music industry. Shuffle is revolutionary, thanks Steve.
