i've googled this, and i've stumbled upon the "boot from your ipod!" solution, but that's really not for me.
here's my problem, and i know others are looking for the same solution all across the board.
i got mac OS tiger, and they only release it on DVD unless you make a special request and pay $10 to downgrade to CDs. given that i have a CD-ROM drive only, this is kind of essential for me. however, i find this suggestion kind of insulting (apple should support all types of users) and wouldn't want to wait forever for the CDs (you need to do it on a separate order form and mail it out with the dvd, etc.)
i still have the DVD. what i want to do, and i want to find out if this is possible:
is there any way to use darwin to mount the DVD (through my linux box, perhaps, or through any other network resource that has a DVD drive) so that i can do the installation that way? or do i really need to get CDs in order for this to be a success (since it may require booting directly to it)?
i REALLY hope there's a normal way to do this without
1. having to buy a dvd-rom drive
2. having to do the CDs
i'm one who is up for experimentation, so doing this would be cool nevertheless, and i'd like to know if it is possible.
thanks in advance for any help!
