Macromedia Studio MX

Alright, I am almost done with school - before I leave, I'd like a graphic design suite, but the Adobe Creative Suite costs $150 more with no animation package (Flash) . . . :(

That having been said;

- Is the Macromedia Studio still a viable option as far as upgrades, support, etc. are concerned with the takeover of Macromedia by Adobe?

- How hard is it to transition from Adobe Products to Macromedia (namely, Illustrator to Freehand)?

- Is there any difference, other than the license agreement, in the academic version of the programs as far as functionality or output is concerned?

Thanks in advance for your help folks!

You are probably better off sticking with Illustrator as I
believe part of the deal is that Freehand will be phased
out, along with Adobe's GoLive.

MX Studio will likely be a solid product for some time to
come.

Well, the thing is, I'm really interested in vector animation, and vector illustration - and unfortunately, I can only buy one suite (and mixing and matching is out of the question, as the individual software prices skyrocket) - add on to the fact that I may no longer be a student (finished my BA requirements, finally).

Also, is there a difference bewteen the academic and the retail versions?

I'm using Macromedia Studio MX myself. But I don't use Freehand so I can't comment on that software. I like Flash though. :)

I was under the impression that the Adobe Contractual Licensing Program (CLP)
Academic Membership Agreement did not include FULL Suites (but things change all the time)

There is no difference in the software other than pricing.
