Machine won't POST

Hi. I've been watching the forums since about 1997. My original name was fritzfield but since I've changed ISP I'm now fritzfield1234.

Any how. I bought a USB card reader for the front panel of my Antec computer case. I had the hard drive out o9f its bay but still compleytely connected. I guess I got a little heavy handed when I tried toi get the card reader flush in the 3.5" bay. Something hit the hard drive and it started smoking. I was told at a tech shop to buy a PCB from ebay, which I did.
The juice gets to the voard and the drive starts clicking but no post. I tried some of my older IBM and WD drives that were working fine when I replaced them, but I still can't get the machine to POST. I tried deleting the CMOS, changed the battery, but no go. The CD ROM drives light up and spin my windows XP disk from which I am trying to boot, but nothing happens and all the fans keep running but no POST.

Any ideas. The Drive was an IDE running as master on Primary IDE channel.

Thanks for whatever help you can provide.

Fritz,

Welcome back.

Are you saying that you bought a replacement PCB for the smoked HD?
If so, was it from an exact same make/model?

If you can't even POST with another HD, try carefully examining the IDE cable as well as the Molex power connector. If you have another IDE cable, try it. Also, get a good look at the IDE connector on the MB. Is anything scorched, melted, etc.?

Yeah, it's an exact replacement model #. Amazing that ebay! I will look at the cables and molex connectors and repost my results.

Thanks.
