Machine stamped Rumsfeld signature on Condolence letters

At least he's being up front about them and saying he doesn't give a crap unlike the desktop patriots on this board who talk a big game and hide under their bed.

*chuckles* Better under the bed than in the closet like yourself, Barney. Though that explains why you seem to post like a petulant child so regularly.

Regarding the news story: Sad. I was not aware that the SecDef's signature was the one to be put on condolence letters. I figured that would fall to the killed soldier's commanding officer...maybe the division commander. Seems sort of odd to put the SecDef in that position to begin with - it's not as if it would be realistic for the person in that position to have ever even exchanged words with the fallen soldier, whereas with their division commander it's slightly more likely.

It's pretty lame that he can't sign a couple of letters a day.

I'm also surprised it goes as high as the sec of defense, but if my relative died the least I could get is a damned real signature.

Betcha he doesn't know what he's signing--I don't think he can read.
HAHAHAHHAHHAA
AHHAHAHA

It's just chicken scratch anyway...you think he really cares what he's signing?

(unless it's anything for the good of anyone but his rich cronies, then that's a definite NO NO)

Personally, I would be offended if that SOB went anywhere near the death notice of my loved one. He's a big part of the reason for their death, afterall.

The excuses Rumsfeld is making for failing to sign the letters are more insulting than his indifference to the loss of American lives. He didn't sign the letters to save time???

With the resources at his fingertips there is no excuse. Rumsfeld could have his aides prepare the letters daily for his signature with just a word. Rumsfeld is devoid of any feeling. U.S. troops are just a means to an end for him. And his ends do not justify their deaths.

It's wrong. Only 1200 or so of them. In fact, he could've made some personal appearances to deliver the news. THat would have been a nice touch.

The number of U.S. troops killed in Iraq was 1,304 as of December 17, 2004.

I'd bet that any politician above the mayor does it the same way. Before the desktop machines that replicate the signatures, it was done by staff. Do you really think the SECDEF under Kennedy during Vietnam did it any differently?

Just like he 'Personally' signed off on all those pre-formatted certificates
& Execution Authorizations back when he was the Governer of Texas ?

He had an 'Aide' line them up and stamp them off with a stamp pad, when
they WERE supposed to have been authentically hand-signed.
Who was that "Mystery Aide' ?

What a fvcking insensitive bastard.

And the Republicans are becoming more and more critical of him:

Too bad Bush won't do what he should have done almost a year ago and that's fire this asshat.

Republicans in Congress aren't as willing to rubberstamp Bush's faulty asshat plans as they were in the first four years. The distancing from Bush has begun already.

From the OPs article
?I wrote and approved the now more than 1,000 letters sent to family members and next of kin of each of the servicemen and women killed in military action,? Rumsfeld said in a statement to the military newspaper Stars and Stripes

Says he wrote the letters. Odd that he wouldn't have time to sign them after writing them.

Well, he probably wrote it up once and then saved it as a Word doc and just changed the names and would have his secretary print out a new copy and stamp his sig on it.

What an insensitive prick this guy is.

how odd, just yesterday Farce News was reporting how Ronald was hand signing each condolence letter

Dear grieving widow/mother/[insert your name here]

Your person died. The sacrifice of his/her life will allow his/her armor to goto a soldier that would not otherwise have armor.

Signed Secretariat of Duhfense

Not surprising - it's totally indicitive of how Bush's Regime operates - it's just a business front for Halliburton.

Bush & his CRAB Junta could care less about the little guys. God knows how they got 51% of the vote last month for atrocious acts such as this.

Although currently casualties are low (per day) in Iraq, I think it's unreasonable to expect Donny to write a new letter every time. Don't forget: he doesn't know the person who died, and really can't have much to say as a result.

I think not signing them personally is pretty tacky; it means the reality is that Rumsfeld never wrote the letter, never looked at the letter, and has no idea that your child is dead, despite the stamped claim to the contrary.

Not that I've been in such a position, but I would think a family might get more feelings of true sympathy if COs wrote the letters (and signed them too, depending on logistics of sending the finished letter overseas versus sending it electronically), and someone in real command (Rumsfeld is still the obvious choice) also signed the letters.

A combination of personal attention from someone who knew the lost soldier, and awareness that your child's name and circumstance at least briefly crossed the desk and attention of the people in charge might give a better feeling that someone actually cares about your loss.
