I would definitely wait. I'm sure it won't be long. Definitely don't buy anything yet, the new ones based on Conroe should be ~50% faster for the same money.

I wasn't aware they were considering putting the Conroe in the Macbook Pro. I thought it was the Merom's that were going in. Conroe was supposed to be in the High end Powermac.

Anyone got a link to confirm this?

as for should you or should you not buy... that's entirely up to you and how soon you need a laptop. no one can predict yet when merom will be put into laptops.

It could be quite some time. However, regardles of what happens, the price will certianly drop.
If you don't need a total powerhouse, a $1100 Macbook Pro is a great deal.

Probably a slip of the finger by Dadofamunky, we all know it's Merom.

Btw, the Mac Pro is reported to use Woodcrest AKA Xeon 5100.

I'm personally waiting for Merom in a MBP. Apple is reportedly going to refresh the styling as well, although I imagine it'll still be an aluminum based construction. It would be nice if they throw in FW800 and perhaps draft 802.11n WiFi.

Intel will release Merom later this summer, so hopefully Apple isn't too far behind now that they are a "PC" manufacturer. 😉

Core 2 Duo (Merom) will probably arrive in force in September or so. But if you're getting the notebook for college or university, get a MacBook Pro now. Familiarize yourself with the system and make sure you've got a reliable unit <i>before</i> you start classes. And besides, you can take advantage of Apple's "free" iPod promo.

If you're not in school, get a MacBook Pro only if you need a notebook right away. When you're purchasing "just because" you want to get the best unit you can for the money.

i'm selling my old computer... its a opteron 165 system.... i need to sell it to get the macbook. should i sell it now and get the macbook or wait and buy it when merom releases
