Macbook [Pro] HDD

I am (still) considering purchasing a 15" mbpro but the 7200 rpm HDD offered from apple are extraordinary expensive. I am wondering if any of you could recommend a good 500 GB+ 7200 rpm HDD for a lesser price than that which is offered from Apple directly.
Help would be appreciated.

Go to Newegg.com
In the Computer Hardware Menu select Hard Drives
In the sidebar, select Laptop Hard Drives
From the pull downs, select Capacity (500GB), RPM (7200RPM) and then hit search.

Take your pick from there based on price and customer ratings.

Yea, any 2.5" laptop drive (SATA) will work in the MBP.

I have a Samsung 500GB 7200rpm in my MBP and it's great. Got it on sale about 4-5 months ago.

I think that all the 12.5mm 2.5" 500GB drives have since all left the market, so you should be safe.

You need to be careful with 750GB and 1TB drives, they might be too thick.

Any idea why Mac OS/X reports the bus is SATA2 (3Gbps) but the stock harddrive is only linking at STAT1 (1.5Gbps)?

I'm going to hopefully get a new 15" soon, and I'll probably go with the 120gig SSD. I have a 120gig 5400rpm in my 3 year old MPB, and the space is adequate, but the speed is not.

Maybe the drive is only SATA1? And this SATA reporting thing, is this on your 3 year old system or what?
