well i got my new macbook pro 13" yesterday and it supposed to be a 160gb model but it's only showing 127 GBs of free space on the HDD....

now i know formatting/osx uses up some space but.... using up more than 20 GB???

That sounds about right. First off, when they make hard drives, they measure kilobytes as 1000 bytes, megabytes as 1000 kilobytes, etc. Your computer measures it as 1024 of each. After a while, that kind of space adds up. I have a 1.5TB drive in my desktop. Its actual capacity is 1.36TB. A 160GB drive actually contains about 149GB. Now, that means that a base install of OS X plus the iLife apps (which take up quite a bit of space) is using about 20GB. That doesn't sound too unbelievable to me.

You can delete a lot of stuff. For example Printer drivers take up over a gig of space. I usually just reinstall OS X and do custom installation.

If you follow this route, uncheck all of the additional languages. Between the printer drivers and languages, you can free up a substantial amount of space.
