Macbook Pro Doc Kickstarter

Especially if Apple, I don't know, drastically or even slightly changes the port layout. Seriously, just make a kickass thunderbolt breakout box.

This is exactly what I'm thinking, if the new Macbook have a changed port layout its all over, the project will be set back months.

Now if it were somehow modular....

I think pretty much every new model of MacBooks have had at least some port change.
A thunderbolt break-out box is probably the best idea. Technically the 27" Cinema display makes for a FANTASTIC dock. Its biggest problem is its also a very expensive monitor.

Actually, it is a very expensive 'dock' if that is what you are using it for. It is a reasonably priced monitor if you compare it to contemporaries, at least last I checked.

I'm going to have to respectfully disagree with that. At my previous job, we all had cinema displays (a mix of the first and current-gen). IMO, they're definitely not worth $1,000. I do design work for a living and there's no way I'd drop $1K for one, even with Thunderbolt.

I agree with what you said originally, though: Someone should just make a really good Thunderbolt breakout box.

The 27" Dell with same resolution panel is $1100 (usually $900 on sale). A 27" display at that resolution costs around $1000 was what I was saying. When you factor in the gigabit, the USB hub, the Firewire ports, the magsafe and everything else, which is something that Belkin is charging (I think) $300 for then it is looking a little bit better.

There are those Korean ones you can get on ebay for $350 or so, but they are dell and apple reject panels.
