Macbook issue

As the topic summary says, as soon as I open the lid after it's been in standby, the fan starts running. If I'm running off just the battery it'll drain the battery very quickly. I have to reboot the laptop in order for everything to be OK.

Last week I replaced the original Superdrive because it was dead. This problem arose shortly thereafter. Any ideas?

Thanks in advance!

I would give apple a call first if its under warranty, and if needed, let them handle repairs.

I should have mentioned that, it's no longer under warranty. If it were I would have let them fix the Superdrive 🙂. It's a Macbook v1.1.

Hrm, it is possible that you borked something up when you did the SuperDrive upgrade... but I can't imagine what. Have you run Software Update yet? It is possible there is some sort of firmware update or some such.

I just did a Software update and 100% updated. Who knows, it's possible that something happened during the install but I doubt it. If my memory serves me correctly, this didn't happen immediately after the install. A couple of days after I noticed the issue.

My guess is that you accidentally disconnected the main fan sensor while you had it open. I did this on my MacBook Pro once and had the same issue. The sensor is located at the back of the logic board in the center. The iFixit guide will show you exactly where it is.

Unfortunately you're probably right. I'm going to try the PMU fix that the previous poster mentioned before opening the thing up again .. that was not fun.
