After I instal Leopard, I would like to install Windows Vista Business through boot camp. My concern is if Windows Vista causes the fans of a Macbook to spin up a lot more then in Tiger/Leopard.

My current Macbook has 2 gigs of ram and a 200 GB 7200 RPM 16 MB Cache hard drive.

Apple engineered the machine, and made it to run with Boot Camp, and guarantees it. What's the exact issue you're having? Is your Macbook different from others?

Vista does cause my fans to run more than in OS X. I am not sure if that is because it is actually hotter (I don't have any gadgets to tell me temps) or if it is has a lower threshold before the fans kick on or what.

However, I don't feel like it is in danger or anything, so you shouldn't have any problems.

dclive, I'm concerned that if Vista causes my fans to spin up a lot more. I don't like it when my Macbook/or any laptop has it's fans on full blast for extended periods of time.

Thanks Stu.

IC. Apple guarantees it and makes the product (both BC and the laptop) so unless yours is different, you should be fine. I've not noticed anything odd when running BC on either a MBP or an iMac C1D2.0.

Just a guess, but you have an Apple product, you're using it normally, and you say it has lots of fan noise - if that's the case, it might be worth calling Apple.

Normally there is no cause for concern when using Apple products (one of the nice things of having the same company do computer, OS, major apps), so if this is a concern, it might be worth giving Apple a quick call ... your total time might be 5 minutes...

Where did I say lots of fan noise as my current problem?

I thought I was clear...

My concern is that if Vista will cause my fans to spin up a lot more. I don't have any problems with Tiger. I want to make sure Vista isn't being heavy on my Macbook.

1. You're being a dick.
2. I run Vista Ultimate and my fans dont run on high.
3. Even if they DO run on high for a bit, the machine can handle it. Dont be ocd about it.

All this time wasted and you still neglect to make a simple 5 minute phone call which would've given you the answer. *sigh*

This kind of response is to be expected, I suppose, from someone who is ocd'ing over some fans spinning.
