The remote optical drive sounds like a pain in the ass to me. If I'm working in a remote location like a hotel room, I might not have another computer with a CD/DVD drive easily available to install stuff from!

I also want to know how in the hell you would reinstall the OS on that thing if gets hosed to the point where it won't boot or connect to the network anymore. I guess that the restore CD would need to offer a network installation option... good luck getting THAT to work on just any PC.

It's a pretty innovative idea, though, AFAIK no other laptop manufacturer has done it before. Those who regularly use an optical drive or expect to be away from one often obviously may want to invest in an external superdrive (if you're spending $1800+ on a laptop, not like an extra $100 is really a big deal).

remote optical drive - network drives anyone? they're not that hard to setup....

It looks impressive, but frankly I don't think many people have a real need for this. It's not all that portable, and if you don't need something so thin (which I believe is most people) you can do far better than that for your money.
But damn it looks nice.

But damn, an LED screen (but apparently not OLED, oh well) and a solid state hard drive. Not bad. Not cheap, either.

My thoughts exactly, I wonder how many people this would really appeal to. Those looking for portability are probably much more concerned about width/length, not height. The only people I could see buying this are Apple fanboys who are willing to spend $1800+ on a laptop just because it looks cool.

He is right. I would rather not have a computer at all than run anything other than vista on it.

Why all this hate for Vista?

Granted, I only run IE/Firefox/Office 2007/Adobe CS3/IM, and play music/movies occasionally. You know, what 99% of computer owners do most often. Vista runs without a problem.

Does Vista give you issues hacking the Gibson or running advanced biomedical simulations?
