The refurb section of Apple store online has the older generation 1.6GHz MBA for $999 if anyone is interested.

Not bad but you can get a brand new polycarbonate Macbook for that with a faster Penryn based CPU and a DVD drive. Unless really need a lighter laptop, I'd go with that instead.

They've been that price in the government EPP store for some time now. Glad to see that they dropped the price for everyone else.

well.. isn't that the whole point of the macbook air? is to have a super light/thin "full sized" laptop? It's like saying why get the macbook air now, the macbook is cheaper.

Yup, that's the entire point. If you want something slim just for basic apps, that's the Air. Or you want a fashionable computer. Either way.

I've been researching this for a few days and given that I don't need anything right now, I'm going to hold off until the current Air is $999 (referb). The old Air has so many limitations and poor performance problems (parallel ATA, X3100 graphics, etc.) - the Macbench scores for the new Air vs. the old are almost 50% faster.

Yeah, the nvidia platform they put in the new one is just that much faster.
