he said he doesn't accept cookies except from a few select sites. most of the stuff that spybot picks up is cookies.

Uhhh no, Spybot picks up basically zero cookies, for cookies you gotta use hitman pro, Malwarebytes or Superantispyware. In fact while I might be wrong, I don't think Spybot even looks for cookies.

It does also pick up known spyware and such. He's never going to believe that a PC can be kept clean without this software by a knowledgeable user such as myself. He has to delude himself into thinking that the huge price premium for a Mac is worth it, and that if he had a Windows system that he would somehow have to constantly maintain and reformat and all sorts of other bullshit to keep it clean. In fact it is his own ineptitude which would cause problems.

I'd believe it if I saw it in person, but as a Network Admin I'd be incredibly surprised.

It does look for and pick up cookies. Things like DoubleClick are detected as threats. Most cookies aren't even remotely close to a threat. I have used it many times before when doing tech work.

He doesn't believe it yet I have the same experience. I also have a bunch of friends that have no problems with their windows pc's either. You are right numen, he has to lie to himself to justify having a mac.

I've done network admin and DBA work. It doesn't surprise me one bit that I can keep my system clean.

Feel free to hop on a plane over the pond and you can take a look.

The funniest thing about this post is that I don't own a mac because of virus', it's just one of the many reasons I own a mac.

I didn't claim it was the only reason, but one of them. Why else you would be going on with this retarded argument that you've already lost.

if you think you've won, then start a thread about people's windows experiences.

I have run Windows bare since Win3 and have never had an infection found by SpyBot, Norton, Ad-Aware, Avira, Panda, or anything else I have run.

All they ever find are cookies.

I am now a Mac guy and think that Macs are the cat's meow, but I see no reason to hide the truth about Windows not being prone to infections. Don't surf stupid, and you won't get infected.

Windows fanboys are not fun people to talk to. On a side note I don't think I've won.

I'm not a "fanboy" for windows. I simply use what works best for what I do.

I'm not saying there is anything wrong with using OS X if that is what works for you. I don't care for it and Apple is overpriced and I can get more for my money with a PC, so I do.

But you saying that I have to have all these extra virus/adware software, have to do some sort of "maintenance" and requires constant reformatting just because I run windows is like me saying that you have to fuck goats in order to use OS X.

i anxiously await the day a apple fanboy pisses off the wrong person/group and that person/group decides to write as much quality malicious code as they possibly can to torture apple users off their high horse and realize that the only reason they dont get targeted is because the ppl doing it are usually in it for money, and not because its a neigh impossible task. its easy to know what platform to target nomatter what your end goal is, lets see osx or windows hmmmmmm i wonder which one to write this for

I already said this before, attacks on Mac's are getting more and more frequent. I personally know a few people that have gotten virus' on their Mac. It's easier to get a virus on a Mac than a Windows computer since most people run anti-virus on Windows and no one runs them on a Mac cus for some reason they think they can't get a virus on them and we know that's false.

Its still considered Open Source because Red Hat allows people take RHEL and redistribute it as CentOS. Theres no restrictions on the code in the way there is with Apple "Open Source" software. The only thing Red hat doesn't allow to be redistributed is their Logos. Not to mention Red Hat does produce another free consumer linux distribution in Fedora.

Red Hat is nothing at all the same as Apple. Your paying for support for RHEL vs using a free distro such as CentOS and theres no technological difference.

my fault, I wasn't clear enough.

if you go back and read the post I was replying to, you'd see by his logic Redhat "isn't more opensource than windows is".

Not that big of a deal IRL now. I'm a college student, and there are kids with Macs EVERYWHERE. Haven't heard a single complaint about viruses, nor have I seen anyone run one. Running an anti-virus now would potentially fuck up more things than prevent because of false positives.
