So now that Mac has switched over to Intel processors, won't Mac's become just as fast as PC's and lose their "edge" that everyone claimed that they had? Won't PC's and Mac's be just as fast because they have the same processors in them? I'm confused. Anybody wanna help me out?

Macs are proprietary, they will cost more therefore that's one disadvantage that they have.
Another is the OS, I'm not sure if it will play windows games. I highly doubt it. *shrug*
I don't think PCs are going to lose much edge.

even if they switch to intel processors apple will still sell the computers and pc owners now have a even better reason to laugh at them for buying overpriced computers

No not really, remember they're using Intel chips. PC buyers will still have the AMD option, AMD smokes Intel and so PC's will still be faster. At least desktops, laptops on the other hand will become very attractive with the P-M.

Well, whatever speed differences you see are most likely going to be software-related. But even then, the noticible difference will most likely be nil. (With the exception of really low amounts of RAM; OS X isn't happy at 256MB and below - but you won't see shipping intel Macs with that little RAM.) The "real" Mac selling points will likely stay the same: good design, good interface, high quality, and good stability. I personally believe that Intel's economies of scale means that even the PowerMacs (or whatever they call them) will be more price-competitive. It's very possible that the new intel Macs will be the first Mac I buy. (Hell, the first PC period from an OEM.) Chances are looking very good that Macs will accept Windows installation with little or no problems; combine that with intel's new tech that let's you run multiple OSes simultaneously, and you're looking at a fun new toy.

Don't worry, platform zealots will still claim that their OS is 'tighter' and therefore squeezes 35% better perfomance out of the CPU as opposed to the leading brand.

crap like this post is illustrative why fanboy's can't fathom why apple would go with intel rather than amd. in 2006, when apple moves over to intel, intel will be releasing yonah. just like the amd x2, it is a 6th generation processor with some new-gen tech, runs cool (probably cooler than amd unless amd really starts optimizing for power consumption, which they should seeing how laptops outsell desktops now), and should be very competitive with the a64 architecture

Since they will be running on the same architecture now, it's FAR more likely that producers of *all kinds* of software will compile versions for the Mac OS in addition to Windows. If you can sell to a whole new audience just by recompiling your software, why not do it?

i don't think it will be quite that simple.
