Mac does make good quality products, I just hate the idea that they are so closed. Windows is not any better but at least the hardware it runs on is more open and you can put Linux on it. That and most stuff runs in Windows, while with Mac most things wont, so may as well just run Linux if you're going to restrict what programs you can run, but at least you remain in an open platform.

My closed system iMac fully boots to Windows 7.

I'm saying that it must take some sort of distributed computing effort to have 50+ tabs open with any kind of decent performance.

I might have about 50 windows open at a time with no issue. Maybe you have spyware.

Why does it have to be so binary?

I own both. I build PCs and now own an MBP.

I also put OS X on said PC that I built. So you don't even need to buy them, though there's that pesky EULA thing.

I find the MBP to be an exceptional product.
And I like both operating systems. Who knew that was possible?

I was drawn to OS X for the display color management. Far superior to Windows. And then I stuck to it because it's good to have a Unix-like OS to do things on, plus the OS X community is filled with creative types who focus on creative-type development.

Indeed. My primary use machines consist of two Macs and two Windows machines. All of those computers are from 2010 or earlier.

2009 2.26 GHz Core 2 Duo MacBook Pro running Yosemite
2010 2.93 GHz Core i7 870 iMac running Yosemite
2009 1.3 GHz Pentium SU4100 ultrabook running Windows 10
2010 2.9 GHz Athlon II X3 435 desktop running Windows 7

These 4 are for myself. My wife also has an old MacBook running Lion, and I have another Windows 10 machine for guests.

I have an iPad Air 2 and it struggles to render this forum when I'm scrolling down and I have even 2 tabs open.

I kind of doubt that. I get a solid 60fps on my Mini. It isn't like this site has some crazy Javascripts going at all times.

No way. I used to but I paid the $80 to the FBI Cybersecurity team to clean it off when I got the notification when I started my computer.

For me it comes down to functionality.
Apple computing is more expensive, but a solid worthwhile investment.
I've had my 2010 iMac since 2010, and I will often price a newer system just for the fun of it. But in reality there is nothing at all wrong with my current 2010 system.
I've done two surgeries on my iMac.
I added a 256 GB SSD drive, and later upgraded to a 3TB internal drive.

What I love is everything just works.
iMovie is great for basic video editing. OS updates are either free or never more than $30.
And if you have other Apple stuff like phones and tablets, integration can not be beat.

I refuse to work on Windows based PC's anymore.
And I sure do not miss the constant headaches and irritations with using Windows based programs.
Frankly, I can't remember the last time I had any technical issue with my iMac.
Everything just works!

I hope your not doing computer repair as a livelihood, if you refuse to work on a windows machine you tossing out 92% of your potential clients. I'm still using a 2008 E8400-based system and "everything just works" fine thank you. Actually, Apple users tend to need the "coddling" effect that Apple offers but me thinks that's because no one writes drive-by malware for such a small amount of users.

My office PC was originally an e8400, but I found someone on eBay selling Quad core xeons modified to fit s775 for $40. Popped one in and basically turned it into as fast a system as the socket will support. Now I think it will make it a few years yet before I need to upgrade it more extensively.

The only other thing I did to it was install a number of graphics cards handed down from my main gaming PC whenever I upgraded it. I honestly think it would play most any game out there at an acceptable fps right now though. It has never given me any trouble at all.

PCs that I build and use myself always seem to continue working into eternity though. It's other people's pcs that inexplicably have all the problems.

Cool, didn't know they were available, think I'll check that out!.
