Mac users: What exactly is spring-loaded folder?


It was in the old MacOS line, so people got used to it.

When you drag an item and hover over a folder, that folder "springs" open. Thus you can drag and drop items into a directory further down the tree without first opening down to that folder.
 
also, lets say youre on the top directory. if you double click and hold down after the second click itll open the folder and then any folder you mouse over in subsequent directories will open without you having to click. you can set the delay time and everything so folders dont just open up if you pass over them quickly. like bubba said though, you can drag items and as long as you continue to hold down the mouse button, itll "climb down" the directories. spring loaded folders have always been a big thing in mac os and im glad theyre finally getting in osx.

yeah. i never knew about it til i bought my first apple computer and my friend showed me. he saw me traversing the file structure double clicking each time. he ripped the mouse outta my hand and showed me how to do it with spring loaded folders. 🙂

This is the first time its been explained for me. Thats kinda neat. 🙂
 
Thanks! I've got that feature for W2K, but I never could figure out what it was for. I guess I'll try activating it now 🙂

n0c, did you manage the upgrade to 10.1.5? Show me quartz! By the way, have you read this book: Griffman's OS X Guide, I suggest you to take a look at the desktop screenshot and install the launcher thing. It's very cool.

I did update, but I havent gotten around to taking screen shots yet. Ill try to do it tonight.
