Mac Section

Since there is now a Mac section of AT, does this mean that we can expect a Mac forum to follow?

That might be a good idea but if you look at all the sections up top - there are some that don't have their own sections.

I say it would be a good thing, I agree there are a lot of forums, but a Mac Forum would be a good way to get all the Mac folks together, me included!

Mac hardware discussion: GH
Mac problems: TS
OS X discussion: OS
Mac software: Software

What's added that makes it necessary for a new forum?

Only problem I see with Mixing Mac in GH and TS and OS and Software is wars and flaming the mac users who are trying to get help. The little there has been since Anand tried and liked the Dual G5 has many times started a flame war and Mac SUX and OSX Sux messages. Maybe if there was Mac Specific forum's the Mac haters would leave it alone. I get so tired of all the bashing when people come seeking our help with their computer problems. Also it would make it easier to for Mac users to find the messages relating to the system that they know.

Just a thought anyway.

I haven't seen this problem in "help the mac guy" threads. In general discussion I expect it, but people seem to be pretty cool when someone is looking for help. For the most part. 😉

And I don't think there is much flaming in TS. Heck, I keep myself fairly nice in there. 😛

The SnR of Mac stuff to PC stuff is far too low; it's difficult for someone looking for Mac help to find someone knowledgable in Macs like me, if it's burried 2 pages deep because the only people that knew the answer were at work all day. Macs are a specialized area; there's no point posting in a forum where 99% of the readers aren't even close to a clue on the subject at hand.

These are my sentiments exactly. I think many people would agree that Macs are sufficiently different from PCs to warrant a seperate category.

In fact I would guess that the majority of people who are opposed to the idea are people wouldn't be posting/reading a Mac forum anyway.

If you're going to make a Mac forum I would suggest bundling it with an MP3 player section. The iPod is #1 in that area, and you need sufficient traffic to warrant an entire sub-section.

No offense man, but that makes little to no sense. The iPod may be an Apple device, but besides that and the fact that it can hook up to a computer, it has little relation to a Macintosh.:Q

Then we need a sun section, an SGI section, a monitor section, an AMD64 section...

Jesus fusetalk sucks, I've got a 2 line by 19 character box to type all this in.

OK fine. The point remains, however, that there is not enough interest in Macs on these forums to warrant giving them their own section. Look at what n0cmonkey just said: AMD64/SGI/etc. Why don't we just have an "alternative computing platforms" section? Maybe that would sum it up nicely.
