Mac Puke needs help with a new PC

I need some helpful advice with a new system I?m building so I can play more than one game at the LAN party. Here is what I'm thinking of getting or have already purchased.

List of parts:
AMD 64-FX-53 (939)

ABIT "AV8" K8T800 Pro Chipset Motherboard for AMD Socket 939 CPU ?RETAIL
Or
ASUS "A8V Deluxe Wi-Fi" K8T800 Pro Chipset Motherboard for AMD Socket 939 CPU ?RETAIL

2-Western Digital Raptor 74GB 10,000RPM SATA Hard Drive, Model WD740GD in RAID 0 (purchased)

PNY 6800GT 256MB DDR3 Video Card (purchased)

Audigy ZS Platinum Pro sound card (purchased)

RAM?? (Corsair Value Select 184 Pin 512MB DDR PC-3200)

DVD-ROM? (Sony Beige 52X32X52X16 Combo Drive, Model CRX320E)

Floppy? (SONY Black 1.44MB 3.5inch Floppy Disk Drive, Model MPF920)

Thermaltake VA3000 Dream Tower Tsunami VA3000SWA ATX Case with Transparent X type side panel window

Antec 550W Power Supply, Model "TRUE550

Apple 23-inch cinema w/DVI connector

Win XP Pro

I want to get a BFG 6800 ultra OC and will if possible as I have yet to open the PNY package. Do I need more than 1 gig of RAM; this system is for gaming so I don?t think I need DVD-R at this point just a good DVD-ROM. I will accept any suggestions or comments good or bad

Thanks in advance

Nick

wow...thats some beautiful stuff right there. (tearing in happiness) one gig of ram is plenty. do you plan to overclock at all? if so, i'd have to recommend you to get better ram then value select, but if you're not, then its perfectly fine. as for the motherboards, the asus one seems to be hte more popular one, is full of features, and seems to overclock very well. sony floppy drives own, so thats good right there. 550W on the psu is overkill, but hey, it wont hurt to have some leftover power. 🙂

I'd get a gig of memory and a PC Power and Cooling PSU. I'm a fanboy, but I had an Antec 550 and now the ATX power connector on the board has melted contacts and incinerated plastic.

You're spending a lot of money on a computer and the PCP&C 510W is rated 650W max and has tighter tolerances.

Those are just my two cents.

Wow,
Great advice already, I don't plan to OC beyond the BFG card but I will look at better RAM and a different PSU. I do plan on getting a UPC for surges and for when the AC in my house kicks on and the lights dim.

Thanks again

Keep em coming

Nick
