I tried installing Windows with bootcamp and every since then if I don't hold alt on the keyboard upon start up I can't load up the desktop. If alt is not held down all I get is a black screen with a flashing cursor. If I hold down alt I am given an icon that shows my osx install. When I hit return on that screen the desktop loads fine. I have went into bootcamp and deleted the windows partition, I don't know what else to do.
 
I take it the OS displays the same symptoms now that you removed the boot camp partition? Is there any way you can take a screenshot? Also, have you made a backup of your important system files?
