By dragging into the Applications folder? Doesn't get any more basic than that I dont think. Hope I couldn't screw that up ;)

I have those issues too. _shrug_ I figured it was JAVA (or JAVA interacting with OS X).

The original Bittorrent client has always worked great for me under OSX. Its fast, supports multiple downloads in one window, and I can change my upload/download speeds. What more could you want?
