Mac OS Mouse Acceleration

This is my first Mac, I'm very happy with almost everything but the mouse acceleration is driving me crazy. Is there any way to turn this off?

They shouldn't call it acceleration as much as deceleration. When trying to make subtle moves, the mouse seems super slow or unresponsive. Bleh.
 
I have found that in OS X there seems to be a more 1:1 connection between the mouse/trackpad and the cursor. If I move the mouse slowly to the left, the cursor moves slowly to the left. If I quickly jerk the mouse to the left, the cursor jumps across the screen almost instantly.

You are probably used to how Windows handles the cursor, which is fine, and totally normal. I think what helped for me was that I got a macbook, and every laptop I had used before then had an atrocious trackpad that didn't track the same as a mouse anyway.

I think that steermouse will do what you are looking for, and it also includes other functionality. It is expensive for a driver, but it does give you some nice functionality. Well, that is what Tyranicus keeps telling me. I like how my VX revolution works already, so much so that I didn't even bother installing the Logitech Drivers.
 
This is precisely the reason I cannot use the Mac OS and am posting from a brand new unibody 15" 3.0ghz/6mbl2c MacBook Pro running WinXP64.

The Mac mouse acceleration absolutely fucks with my head too much to make using Leopard bearable.

I'm with you. This Macbook is the first laptop trackpad I've ever used that was actually usable.

If you're on a Mac and want to plug in a mouse and have it behave like Windows, the Microsoft Mouse (w/ MS drivers, which they do make for OSX) are pretty good. In fact, I didn't even know that OSX was goofy with a mouse until I plugged in my Razer and there were no drivers for it. Acceleration all over the place, but mostly on one axis.

SteerMouse gets good reviews from folks here, though. I don't have it, so I can't comment there.

Saga, definitely try SteerMouse. It feels almost exactly like Windows with biggestmuff's settings.
 
Cool thanks for inputs.

I didn't even notice how differently the mouse behaves because I had only used the trackpad for 3 weeks. But already within 3 weeks, I can't stand using non-mac trackpads.
