Mac Mini (mid 2011) Multi-display Issue

While I'm waiting for Apple to update my purchase date (I'm out of tech-support date since I didn't buy AppleCare yet and they say I bought it more than 90 days ago. I bought it a week ago)...

My Mac Mini (mid 2011) Server edition is having a funky display issue. I upgraded to 16GB of RAM (officially it supports 8GB), which bumps the shared display memory to 512MB. I have a Dell U2711 and a Lenovo L220X hooked up via miniDisplayPort => DisplayPort and HDMI => SL-DVI respectively. When they're both hooked up, the U2711 flickers and sometimes loses signal completely, requiring me to unplug and plug it back in. If only one or the other is plugged in, this doesn't happen. This also doesn't happen with 4GB of RAM (running with 384MB shared display memory).

Any comments/suggestions/etc while I wait to talk to tech support?
I'm guessing the Intel HD 3000 graphics support driving both of the monitors simultaneously if it works with 4GB of RAM.

Have you tried pulling one of the 8GB sticks see if that works. When they said 8GB limit, it is possible that they meant it.

Also, looking at your list of systems in your sig... dang. That is a lot of stuff.

Also, how sure are you that it bumps the shared display memory?

System Information says so. 😛. When you bump it to 8GB, the shared display memory gets bumped from 384 to 512MB.

And another thing!

What OS are you running and what version?

Mac OS X 10.7.3.

It's interesting though that it happens only when both monitors are hooked up. As I said, when only one monitor is hooked up, it doesn't happen; even with 16GB installed, there's no flickering or anything. I wonder if it has to do with the Intel HD 3000 and trying to drive 2560x1440 + 1920x1200.

As for all the systems in my sig... it's an old list. I think there's more now. 😛 But my sig is at it's length limit. I also sold my iMac. It was taking up too much desk space and my U2711 serves much more purpose.
