Mac Mini Memory (non Mac)

After reading AT's article on the Mac Mini, decided to give it a whirl. Def gonna upgrade the ram, and even tho AT's article says u should use Mac-timing specific ram, I'm wondering if anyone's tried any 'standard' ram in their Mac mini.
Newegg's got this 1gig stickfor leess than half of the cheapest 1 gig stick AT mentioned in the MacMini Memory article:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820145505

and according to firstadopter.com, the basic ram specs (too bad no timing info) are:

* PC2700 or PC3200 Synchronous DRAM (SDRAM)
* 2.5 volt
* 8-byte
* non-parity
* 64-bit wide
* 184-pin module
* maximum of 16 memory devices on the DIMM
* unbuffered?do not use registered or buffered SDRAM
* maximum height of 50 mm

I know the timing info can be read off the photos AT has of the ram used in the Mac memory article, but what else might be reported differently by the SPD?

I basically don't want to waste $90 on a stick that won't work in the mac Mini, even if one reviewer for that Corsair ValueSelect mentioned using it in their iMac G5

Thanks for any input

Got a generic 1GB stick of PC3200 CL3 working just fine.

I did however have a working stick of Mushkin 512 PC3200 that would NOT work .

It didn't work in my Epox 8rda+ or my buddies machine. Popped it back in the Abit KD7 and booted right up.

You shouldn't have any issues.

Link for the lazy

I know people with the Mini with that exact RAM from Cosair and it works perfectally. I am using a Stick of PQI that I got from Newegg and it too works great. Not a crash, or anything in over a month. It's PC3200 DDR. The Mini does not seem all that picky. Just get GOOD ram and it should work. The Cosair is very good. My friend with a Dual G5 2.0Ghz has it in matched pairs and it's 100% there too.

But... if you don't buy iRam from Apple, you'll get a good iPrice at their expense... They iRule, wtf are you thinking of iDoing? Paying a little extra is a small price indeed for the coolness of making them money and having a product whose name starts with a lower case I. Don't give in.
