Is a mac filter good enough to block outside people from using my Wireless Internet? I only allow one mac filter on the list.

If you set it so that only specified mac adresses could connect, then that would work relatively well. There's alot about wireless security at Tom's networking. Read some of it, it's really intresting.

Just because somebody can't get an IP address doesn't mean they won't be able to read all of your unencrypted traffic to/from your router. If you care whether others can read everything you type, then you'll use encryption. Preferably WPA or better.

not to mention I can spoof my mac in about 30 seconds.

remember, their are 2 parts to Wireles security, Encryption (WEP, WPA, etc) and Authentication (MAC filtering, 802.1x, etc). use both parts to secure whenever possible.

 yeah, combine MAC filtering with WPA and that should do the trick

Don't bother with mac filtering. Use WPA (with a strong key), as there aren't any reliable ways to efficiently crack it yet. Use WEP if you must, but know that your network can be cracked efficiently. Anybody who can crack either encryption already knows the mac addresses of computers on your network (and can spoof their's from the command line).

Also, turn off SSID broadcasting. That helps "cloak" your network a little bit, to the point where cursory scans won't see it. Same thing as before though, anyone who can crack WEP/WPA already knows your SSID... Buf if that guy's only done cursory scanning, he won't know that you even have a network.

Very true.

Provided the person knows what is Sniffer, and What is MAC, and what spoof MAC means.;)

If the avarge person knew, his DVD player would not blink 12:00 01-10-2000.

It probably would block 99.9% of the people around you.

The question you have to ask yourself is: "What about the 0.1% that know how to spoof a MAC"?
