They should just ban fat people from flying on regular commercial flights. They are a hazard to everyone, on the comfort level and on a safety level.

Moreover, I know that there are meds to help you LOSE weight gained as water. Meh, darwin award nominee.

"She suffered from kidney disease and diabetes."
Basically this. There are water pills yes, but from what i remember it is highly aggressive, and damage your kidneys in the process. if her kidneys are that bad already, she would not have been able to safely take them.

I'm not a doctor, but I'm pretty sure the treatment for kidney disease and diabetes is not eating like a hippo. Maybe she's one of those magical fatties that had a "gland" problem. You know, where energy gets created from nothing? They need to harness that for cars. You fill your tank with 5 gallons, use 2 gallons, and the next time you get in, there's 10 gallons in the tank :^D

I happen to have a gland problem (hashimoto's thyroiditis). It doesn't create magical energy, but it does tank your metabolism. Granted, I went from 215 to 145 without even knowing I had it so it's not impossible to lose weight. However, even treated I still will gain weight super easy so I need to always be vigilant of it. I average about 1500 calories a week to keep my weight down.

My Dad died of diabetes at the age of 65, he was not anywhere near the size of this woman (not even half her size). His kidneys failed and he was on dialysis 3 days a week.

Still, it seems like the airline tried to accommodate her as best they could. I don't see a case against Delta here.

I was pondering what your meals looked like. At 1500 calories per week, you'd have to trisect a granola bar for your days food, and fill in the rest with celery :^D

No kidding, most Americans have 1500 calories in the appetizer before their meal. :awe:

Probably alittle off topic, we have a guy at work who probably weighs over 400lbs, and barely makes it to his desk everyday, but will tell you that he is one of the healthiest people in the building, citing that he has a thyroid problem. The funny thing is that he will call a 5000 calorie order into waffle house each night.

If she was so ill that she could die without treatment, and you decide to go somewhere where you refuse to go to the hospital, even when you are incredibly sick, why the hell would you even take that chance and go on the trip in the first place? This is especially true if you can gain so much "water weight" that you can no longer fit in the same type of airplane, or an even bigger one than the one that brought you over in the first place.

how the hell did she flight from her home to hungary in the first place?

Losing weight and keeping it off is extremely difficult, but at 400 pounds it's way past time to get disciplined. That's no way to live.

when something bad happens that means somebody else owes you lots of money, it's the american way.

If my wife weighed 400 pounds I think I'd send the captain a bottle of champagne.
