I used to have a copy and unfortunately it got ruined. I want to buy a copy again, and was interested to see what versions people had and what they thought of those respective recordings.

IIRC, mine had Middle eastern language on it and was an import

I have the Telarc version conducted by Zdenek Macal (Amazon ASIN: B000003CXE) and I like it. I haven't listened to other recordings, but at the time (late 90s) this version was recommended by the BBC Music Magazine.

Aye. I had that version as well. Unfortuantely, I felt that it lacked the passion of the version I am talking about.

I'm so happy This version is AMAZING. You can hear people in their chairs, coughing...it is like as if there....and the orchestra....what accuracy what passion, what fierceness. They attack this piece head on and it results in a truly marvelous performance

Could be, one of the 3 Zdenek reviews on Amazon did say this Kubelik was superior.

The main difference between the albums, in my opinion, is the tone set in 'Vltava'

In the Suprephon version ( the one I am going to buy again) what hits you at the beginning is an acute sense of desperation. Suddenly, the piccolo is joined by the proud and pompous string section. Then, once the medoly hits, you are thrust into a melodic dance that is just awesome....:

In "sarka" there are no soft cutoffs. Every accent is accute, pronounced, and does not linger.

These sets of pieces are decievingly lavish. They have moments of incredible calmness and overall sereneness that can immediately turn on you as a fierce melody of anguish.

One of if the the most emotional-charged sets of pieces.

Bolero by Ravel inspires more of an emotional response in me than this, but this hass such a variety that I just let it take me along for the ride, wahtever the ehll that means.
