M577 IDE drivers

Using the Win98 generic IDE driver everything was fine except for the fact that I could not use DMA.
When I installed the AGPpro IDE driver for the M577 the system did not boot.

Does anybody experienced sth like this ? Can it be a little trick in the BIOS settings ?

I *had* that board and it suck it would not work with UDMA
did you download the new drivers?
Windows ME is the only OS that work O.K.

get a new board🙂

The chipset is VIA's MVP3 paired with the 586B south bridge.

The 586B is UDMA33 capable, yet there have been many VIA IDE driver revisions that screwed up bigtime. Try their latest, anything from 2.1.37 upward has worked well for me on several different types of mainboard using the 586B south.

I have installed version 2.1.49 and still can´t use DMA. I check it in the device manager and after a reboot it is unchecked...

I do not intend to change the motherboard for now.
Will Millenium solve this problem ?

As long as you have the "DMA" checkbox in Device Manager, you are still running the Microsoft drivers.

Non-MS drivers don't have that DMA checkmark. VIA's drivers, when active, use a separate DMATOOL.EXE to show and alter each drive's operating mode.

To get rid of MS drivers, delete the devices in Device Manager, then install VIA's drivers, and reboot. When prompted for drivers for the IDE controllers, point the system to the VIA drivers manually. When left to its own decision there, Windows tends to install the MS drivers.
