doesn't usually work that way when it's engineered though. Engineers are usually looking at limiting points of failure. Usually a layman will assume that though. You can seriously abuse a Porsche most of the time and it will just come back for moar!
With the Porsche 944 at least much of the undercarriage is about aerodynamics I believe and some protection secondary and probably stopping junk and crap being thrown up into the compartments tertiary.
