That's the thing with the Import fanboism that's everywhere. You can bring stats about the GT-V and ZR-1 beating the Euro cars on their own turf. They just ignore it. But oh boy, if their cars beat the Americans by a 100th of a second, you can be sure we're going to hear about it.

the rs5 looks the best and if the engine sounds like the old rs6 engines it also sounds the best. it likely also has the best interior of the 3. so, considering that the closest to a track i'd ever drive any of these on is the express-street portion of memorial drive, it'd be the audi.

if i had to pay for one myself it'd be a gently used cts-v.

The 2011 STI beat the Panamera 'ring time by 1 second, they posted a 7:55 something. Not a production car 100%(IIRC they were running a JDM spec motor with a slightly larger turbo but the suspension pieces were the same) but still mighty impressive.

That isn't exclusive to import fanboism...that's just the way fanboys are period. Whether it is game consoles, cars, phones, computers, golf clubs, guns, or woman's underwear...they always harp on every small advantage their beloved product embodies and ignore whatever huge shortfalls it may have.

True, but I didn't know how to word it. There's is an Import Fanboy attitude out there. You listed some contrasting ones.

Take for example computers. There is the Mac fanboy attitude. Even some PC owners have it. Even people who don't even own a computer have it. This is the same attitude out there with Import Cars. Get what I'm saying?

Oh, I definitely understand...I just think that is what defines a "fanboy" over just a fan. A fanboy likes something blindly. They may have a few valid reasons for liking something...but most of their reason's is just fud or some attachment to a cause.

The anti-fanboy can be just as bad. The person who won't accept a good product for being a good product just because there are a lot of idiot "fanboys" who like said product.

It's not fanboyism at all. I just don't care how much horsepower a caddy, vette, or viper has. I find them all ugly. I enjoy driving and looking at my Audi.

So.....You're an Audi fanboy?

Your post is relative. I was talking about a fanboy. You obviously like an Audi. That's preference. Now, if you're going to deny the CTS-V as having more power or being the slower car, then fanboy will have to apply obviously.

Way more restrictive and sound deadening. Old muscle cars had a filter on top of the carb and that was it. Exhaust was straight through.

I think you missed the point of speedy's post. Obviously if you enjoy the way your Audi looks and drives and that was more important to you than having the fastest thing on the block...that doesn't make you a fanboy. If you made some stupid comment like "American cars are only fast in a straight line", then someone retorted that the CTS-V beat all German sedans around the Nurburgring, and you just ignored it and moved to some random comment that your Audi beat a CTS-V around a go-kart track...then yeah...we'd call you a fanboy.

You can, almost. A USDM with reflash is probably even a little more powerful than what they were running. Subaru only runs their prototypes on the 'ring vs full production cars.

In any case I believe there are emissions related reasons why the JDM ej20/twinscroll won't ever be coming over here.

Or you just want something because it makes your jaw drop every time you see one. Even my ex gf who thinks the Honda Civic is the best car ever made admitted the S5 was probably the best looking car shes ever seen. Performance is a semi moot point in this case, you can brag that one is .3 seconds faster around a track but when it comes down to it they all will behave predictably the same when driven "with gusto" on public roadways. Each has its positives and negatives.

RS5 for coupe, but Id be tempted on the CTS-V Sedan.

Not only do we need to take into account fanboyism vs. preference, but priorities. If performance is someone's first priority, then they will choose the Caddy, looks, the RS5 (though I've never been one to drool over it), etc.

Personallly, I'd never buy any of these new (not in the $ range for me sadly), but if I were magically given any of the three for free (with the rule that I must drive it until it's dead / no resale and flip option) ..

M3.

The Audi looks nice but I'm just not an Audi type of guy. Only the R8 seems 'right' to me, and it's largely a Lambo, right? Heavy AWD cars based on FF platforms make me a sad panda. CTS-V is ten kinds of awesome, and sedan for sedan, I'd probably take one of those, but the coupe is an abomination imho. I'm like that with many cars though, the IS coupe is absolutely ghastly as well, while the sedan is really quite nice looking. The Audi/BMW actually look nicer in coupe form, so it just goes to show that it's really a model by model thing.

Must have been a Lexus IS250, I mean, I can't think of another Lexus which has less power than an Avalon.

ES, and the Avalon had the 280 hp 2GR 3.5 V6 exclusively (avalon was it's launch platform) which nothing in the Lexus line up south of the LS could touch at at the time.

800lbs would put it at 3400lbs, only 200lbs heavier than a z06. Don't see that as happening.

My point was that I don't to compromise on getting a heavier car in exchange for the Vette which is very similar in straight line performance and handles better. If it was closer to the same weight, with 556hp, then it would be a no brainer.

Oh, I'm not disagreeing. I LOVE the look of Audi's and someone choosing one on looks or interior quality certainly has merit...and does not make you a "fanboy". That is what I was trying to say in the post.

I wonder how many would change votes after driving all 3 cars?

That would be a very interesting test. Even cooler would be some way to mask what car the person is actually driving and let them choose after they have done that...kinda like a blind taste test.

What I found really interesting in the C&D article was that they said the Caddy had the nicest steering feel of all of them. Honestly, other than the cheap "interior bits", they only had a problem with the auto transmission..something I would never get. The Insideline people liked the manual transmission and also noted how well the suspension worked in the CTS. I'd really love to test drive one of these.
