I'll have to see... I still have a while before I place the order and I'll see how much cash I'm saving vs spending, and make my decision based on that price. Every $1000 the car goes up will be ~$30 more a month, so you're talking about $120 a month more for the comp package. I don't know if that's worth it... but like I said, we'll see.

Ya, but you're talking about what, a $60k car? I'd say if you can afford that $120 extra a month is nothing. Doesn't seem like a bad deal for what you're getting. If you spend a lot of time on the track it's definitely worth it.

if you must buy that... get the 6sp manual! and i hope you auto-x better than the guy in the m3 taht even i beat in my mazda3 🙂 we're both n00bs tho.

Yes, I autocross the RX-8 I own now, and I do pretty well. I beat most of the M3s because they are more weighty than my car 😀

I don't know, I guess I'll have to read some more reviews about the comp package and see what's what.

when I turn 25, if my Jetta makes it that long (its about a year and a half), i'm going to buy a 2001 M3.

i love those cars.

If you truly enjoy the art of motoring and plan on a track day here and there, then I think the $4K is worth it. If the car is merely a means of conveyance or a part of your image, then don't. Simple.

A quick rundown of what the Comp Package entails:

- More aggressive wheel/tire combo.
- Retuned suspension.
- Enhanced steering.
- Addidtional DSC setting (M Track Mode).
- Better brakes.
- Optional SMG gearbox or conventional manual...you choose.
- Alcantara steering wheel.
- Aluminum interior trim.
- Optional Interlagos Blue exterior color.

"...I mean, granted you get nicer brakes but aside from that, there's nothing..."

I count a total of 8 "nothings" in addition to the brakes, so I disagree with your statement.

If it was for my image I definately would 😀

I dunno, just trying to stick to a budget that's all 🙂 There has to come a point where I say "dammit stop!" and not waste money. I'm trying to be responsible and enjoy myself as well. I will be starting a new job in a month and the salary bump is HUGE... so I am already finding ways to waste my money 😀

I count 7 in addition to the brakes. The optional SMG or manual is no different from standard, right?

Apex, you are correct. The SMG is an option on all M3's, not just ones with the Competition Package...my bad. Still, 7 "nothings" in total. Although arbuably 8 as I think you get some additional bodywork (i.e. ground effects + spoiler) over the standard M trim, but I am not certain.

Nevertheless, I am still of the opinion that $4K is good value for money in this particular case.
