no, that's most certainly NOT the way it should work because people with no money wouldn't give a fuck.
Newsflash. People with no money don't have insurance and don't give a fuck.

It's also sickening that car insurance is mandatory. Must be nice to be in a business where it's illegal if people don't buy your product. I drive used cars, I always pay under 5k. If I had the choice I'd rather save myself a couple hundred bucks a month and take the chance that I get in an accident and end up spending a grand or two to fix it.
I'm over 25 now
Must be a nanny-state mentality.Location: Canada
When I got a car I had to put it in my dad's name and his insurance since there was no way I could actually afford insurance on it. I was driving an old Buick Lesabre, do you really think someone driving such a grandpa car is going to do dangerous driving? LOL. Paid like 2k for the car, they wanted like over 5k per year LOL.
lol wut? i have a brand new car + an old beater, pay 220$ a half for comp/coll on the new one and liab on the old one.
maybe canada has traffic violation laws or insurance regulations that force companies to jack the price up. michigan does this, it is ridiculous and causes insurance there to be 2x or 3x higher than ohio or surrounding states.
I can't believe people here are defending insurance companies. But that's typical atot, launching personal attacks at me instead of looking at the big picture. I KNOW why it is the way it is, but I don't have to agree with it.
