Well, I have tried everything I can think of so I figured I would check here and see if anyone has any ideas.

I have an Alienware M17x R2 and for some reason it is becoming more and more common for it to restart with a blank screen (totally blank, no backlight no nuthin). The machine still runs perfectly when connected to an external screen and generally if it is shut down totally, 1 out of 10 times it will start just fine with full screen functionality.

-I get no beep codes of any kind and everything seems to function when it starts ok.

-I did a total tear-down even pulling the back cover off the LCD to check the LCD cabling and re-seated all cables with no change.

-I also disconnected one of the GPUs just in case it was causing an issue (But I'd assume running an external screen would have problems if the issue was GPU related).

-When the screen does function fine, I have tried opening and closing the casing to see if there is an flicker or other telltale signs of LCD failure but no luck, works fine when it decides to work at all.

So am I just dealing with a bum screen here or is there something I may be missing?

Alienware M17x R2
Windows 7 HP 64bit
i7 CPU.....can't remember which off the top o my head
8GB DDR 3
AMD HD 5870 x2 Crossfire
500GB HDD

Never OC'd or run at anything but stock settings.

Thanks!!

Pull video wire out from monitor.
Now pull power from monitor.

Hold down the power button. count to 3. Now release power button.
Plug power back in. Keep video wire out. Turn monitor back on.
See anything?

I have not tried that yet. I had put the whole thing back together by the time I read your post. If that was all that had occurred, I would tear it back down again and try it but........I put it back together, still no picture....then.....

F....For no good reason at all, I tried turning it on, closing it, and opening it and Picture! Boots and runs fine. If I shut it down and turn it back on, no picture. If I turn it off and then back on and let it boot all the way to Windows (you can tell cause the windows chime plays), then close and open, no picture. But if I turn it off, then turn it on, quickly close the lid, then open, I get full POST screen all the way to normal boot. So. Weird.
