Got a Apple Refurbished 2020 M1 MacBook Air (16GB/1TB) for about $1400 this past January 2022, it's been my daily driver for a year now, absolutely no issues so far. Only thing i could want is more ports, two USB-C is pretty rough for a desktop-replacement device when you gotta use one of them for charging, it's still dongle-city up in here to get Ethernet, monitor, keyboard and mouse and the occasional external storage device all attached.

At this point I would probably consider going with a more recent Pro model if only to cut down on dongles but the performance of the M1 is absolutely top notch even three years out.

Another consideration is that the M1 MBA is fanless which is a big deal when you have hairy pets in the household. And fanless + less weight are significant also if you value portability (carrying the laptop for hours in the city)
