Trololo....

So Nvidia is stomping around rippin their hair out goin "DANG IT DANG IT DANG IT!" gettin owned by AMD/ATI releasing early again. But this time AMD says "Hey you know what, we can charge more for our cards this time since Nvidia is being tarded again...no competition"

So when the cards hit Nvidia is jumpin around like "FRAK YES!!! HOLY STRUDELS YESSSSSSS!!1!!!!!" because they see the price and performance of the AMD/ATI cards. "HURRY MINIONS, TO THE FABS! We must change our product names immediately!"

Nvidia realises that their mid range cards may be able to compete with the performance of AMD/ATIs high end cards. So they rename their 350$ GTX570 replacement cards as a $500 GTX580 replacement card and rake in the stupid insane profits. Then a $250 GTX560ti replacement as a $400 card. But they have yeild issues, so theyre back to stompin around goin "DANG IT DANG IT DANG IT!!!"

But then they don't actually have to worry about producing the cards origionally designed to be the high end, they can take their sweet arse time trying to get it perfected so they can get more than 3 or 4 chips per wafer...and if they release them they may just be able to sell them off as a new generation and get people to upgrade from the previously mid range marketed as the high end.

M0AR PR0FITS!!!!

(for everybody, but I think its Nvidia who is sluaghtering on profit per unit)

I do find it hilarious that in at least 4 years the $100 cards havn't done shnoz. You could get a 4850/4870 for $100 (or less) WAYYYY back in the day and today it still costs that much for the same performance. Its nice that the mid to high end is slowly creaping upwards...but with all the stupid massive piles of money these guys are making youd think theyd share a little bit with the less fortunate and give us low end hippies something to upgrade to. These crappy x770 cards should be like $80 now, the x750s should be like $60. I think we deserve to have performance like a 6870 or regular GTX560 priced near $100 regular retail (and no, $135 after rebate is not close).

Well thats my story and Im stickin to it...

Not at all actually...I have the wonderfull ability of lacking all emotion. I just had the thought of a funny cartoon like scenario in my head...but lacking any and all creative ability left me with just that post.

1) companies exist to make money
2) if the perf/$ isn't up to your expectations, don't buy?
3) a bit too much emo, or not that great a troll, or both
4) in before lock

Well, these are high end parts, like it or not. But yes, obviously the companies realized they could charge $500 for a card and make a killing. They are for profit ventures - why would they reduce prices when they can sell out of stock within minutes for months at a time? I also wish prices were lower, but I don't see it happening. Like cell phone contracts, as long as we keep buying, they'll keep selling.

On the other hand, you can buy my 2x GTX 460s for $200 used. :)

You may desire it, but you don't deserve it.

Well all you other hippies wishing for a good low cost card, you just try and come after me.

Like it or not videocards are specialized electronics that require very expensive processes to create, not to mention these are being produced on cutting edge technology. If the current gen isn't up to your price/performance requirement then there is always last gen performance for cheaper. High end videocards have always been expensive, it is no different now as it was back with Voodoo 2's. Voodoo 2's launched at 299 in the late 90's, which puts it at 400 dollars adjusted for inflation.

With their yield problems, I doubt they could even make their "high end" cards right now. The GTX680 is probably close to the limits of what they can get reasonable yields with.

Also it's no surprise to me that the 6xx series are better than the HD7xxx, NV released 4.5months later, though in such low quantities AMD didn't feel the need to price-match them right away.

Still, AMD will definitely need to do something as NV's yields improve or they're in trouble, with significantly less performance per mm^2.

yes, the current cards could easyly have a drop of 100 bucks, and it would still give some profits...

... but the stock market wouldn't like that

Edit:

Oh and heres the instructions:

Now all I need is a good video card around $100. I never said I cared what the pricing on high end cards was...

*Looks at wafer costs*
*Looks at paying per chip regardless of functionality*
*Looks at yield issues*
*Looks at Nvidia's past*

Yeahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

If they could have launched GK100 they would have. They could not. Or not make it competitive in games with the 680.

I would do the same thing if I was the owner or CEO of nvidia... Product@ Price = people willing to pay for it = cash... and the current prices prove it... if anyone here on this forum saw a chance to do this and become rich, you would do it... we can balk all we want about prices, but none of us would complain if we were in their shoes raking in the dough...:$

You do realize, that the HD4850 512MB cards were $200 MSRP, and the HD6870 cards were $240 MSRP, right?

And you want them for $100? Isn't it progress, that a $110 (MSRP?) 7770 is as fast?

That's like a 2x price decrease for the same performance. Yes, cards ARE still getting cheaper.

Edit: Not to mention the price/performance increase between the HD4850 512MB cards and the HD6870 1GB cards. The HD6870 was roughly equal to two of the HD4850s, but was not twice the price, instead, barely more than just one of the HD4850 cards. So there is definitely progress happening.

It's getting harder and harder for nVidia and AMD (and Intel for that matter) to make new GPUs with drastically higher performance.

The thing is, the 7870 and 7850 will both be low end pretty soon, and will be much faster than the current 6870/6850.
