My buddy brought me over his tower (I built) because the HD died, no problem, I replaced the drive and went to fire it up and I got nothing, not a peep, no fans..nothing.
I tried three other PSU's I had sitting around and same result, I checked the power switch and disconnected everything except mobo/ram and CPU with same result.
I just so happened to have the exact same motherboard new in a box so i switched them out and it didn't fire the first time I hit the switch but did the second time (odd) so I took it downstairs and it did the same thing, I shut it down and it fired every time I tried from then on so I assumed it was just a minor quirk and I would load Windows....
Windows (XP) is loading fine until I pull the cd out to type in the code and put it back in, as soon as the tray goes back in the puter shuts down and won't fire back up.
I am thinking that maybe the mobo is shorting out with the case? if this is the problem, how can I insulate it without causing more problems?
Please bump me even if you can't help, because that will help.
