I would love to see such a game made, but I doubt their ability to create such a game. Their credentials seems to be that they love MOO2 and watch Star Trek.

I liked a lot of what they said in the video, although it did seem a bit ambitious. And the real test of the game isn't going to be the graphics or the music, but the tactical ability of the game. I will keep an eye on this one. it looks like they already hit their nut as far as funding is concerned. Hopefully it will be good.

MoO3 developers were super ambitious in their descriptions of the game while it was in development : p I don't know if I'll back it yet. These guys are lacking street cred, and I have Endless Space to get some 4x action on even if the battles are pretty lacking.

More than lack of street cred, although I liked what I saw in the video, it still seemed a bit amateurish. And although they talked about graphic designers and musicians, I didn't hear any mention of anyone capable of building a competent A.I. or strategy engine.

I mean maybe they can do it. But I am thinking of Stardock and how much trouble they have had with Elemental and thinking, can some enthusiastic amateurs due better? Plus, it sounds like they are doing this on their off hours. Not even as their primary focus. Just seems like an aweful lot of 'IFs' to make it actually work out properly.
