Yeah, the Creative software SUCKS. Just get the standalone driver package, you'll be fine. Don't install anything from the CDs. For whoever lost the 3dmark points... get the newest drivers from creative, they dramatically increase FPS, by as much as 20%.
They claim it improves performance as much as 20%, but it`s only around 5%, and the sound has less bass, and is more hissy with the latest drivers.
I've had no problems with my Audigy 2. And "made for cheap speakers"? Actually, the Audigy 2 ideally runs w/ the creative megaworks 6.1 setup... which costs $345. Klipsch 5.1s are $329... so yeah... made for cheap speakers... keep thinking that.
Some people just refuse to belive that Creative Labs sound cards and speakers are just as good as their competitors products.
You just need to rid yourself of all of creatives devil software, then get the drivers alone. THings will run great.
The "devil" software includes AudioHQ, which you`ll be fcuked setting up your sound card & speakers without.

Oh yeah, their website is terrible as well. Truly awful. It opens popups for gods sake... Everything about creative sucks except their hardware. THeir tech support is AWFUL.
I dont get any popups. You must have alot of spy/adware on your system, go run ad-aware.
Their support is great. Ive rang them up before now, and they were very helpful, and their online chat thing is great as well, they are very helpful.
You must have had a bad experiance with them.

Actually, I calibrated my speakers and regained a bit of respect for Creative. I also downloaded the RAID drivers for my MB and stopped getting SBDetect errors. I think a $500 speaker package is cheap, sorry that's a little audiophile arrogance on my part. For $70, I guess I should just deal with it. The thing that bothers me about the card, really, is how inadequate the pass through is, only PCM is tough for me. Maybe some day card computer speaker manufacturers will get it.

Audiophile Alert!!!
For alot of people, $500 would buy them, speakers, and a sound card, and loads of other stuff.
The thing with audiophile`s, is they start off like everyone else, then decide to buy some fancy speakers & sound card/DVD player/HiFi. Then they get it in their head that everything below a certain price point is rubbish.

Yeah, and $1000 would buy most people a cheap Dell, a monitor, and loads of other stuff... these geeks, they buy a fancy video card or motherboard and suddenly they think everything under $500 is rubbish 😛 It's all about spending your cash on what matters to you, whether its playing games with more eye candy or listening to music with more clarity. If audio quality isn't important enough to you to justify a $500 purchase, thats fine and dandy... but it doesnt mean the people who do spend that kind of money are insane.

My point was, is that they belive that they are true audiophiles, when they are not.

Ooookay... so what does it take to become a "true audiophile", then?
Dont start boyo.
A true audiophile would be able to notice the difference between gold and non-gold plated connectors, and other things like that. And would appriciate a product for its merits, despite its price range.
Alot of people here claim to be audiophiles, when they are not.

LOL. When I called myself an audiophile I intended in to be self-depricating. I run my speakers 2 ways. One is using the external decoder so that I have basically some high end computer speaker powered through my amplifier, the other way is by using my amplifier to decode DD/DTS. Guess which one sounds better (hint: it's the one I can't do)? I've heard some higher rated computer speakers (Klipsch, Monsoon) and they aren't what I look for in an audio experience. For someone with a better set-up than computer speakers, the Audigy2 does not seem the best solution. Sorry for the contraversy 😛 .

WTF? I've found its best to abandon an argument when it escapes all boundries of logic and sense... so you win...

If you want to have some real fun, go here and post a thread about how great your Bose Speakers are:
Audio Forum

Just make sure you research it a bit first so you can come across like you know what you're saying. My fronts are Bose, btw, and I have the tin plated variety of Audigy2 so I'd venture the phrase "audiophile" won't be lobbed in my direction anytime in the near or distant future. I wouldn't hear it over people throwing nerd out there at me anyways D: .

Klipsch may be one of the best computer speakers you can get, but in the end you're still looking at a satellite speaker with a 0.75" tweeter and a 3" midbass crossed over at 120Hz. Pick up a somewhat decent bookshelf speaker (1" soft tweeter, 6" mid) and it'll blow the Klipsch away. The Promedias are hardly audiophile quality (same goes for Bose).

And if you want to hear some good musical computer speakers, look for the old Altec Lansings. They actually used wood for the sats, much better than this plastic crap that Klipsch uses.

That being said you don't have the equipment to tell the difference between M-Audio and Audigy2. Save yourself the cash and get a Fortissimo III.

You should probably remove yourself from this thread before embarrasing yourself further. Oy.
