M.2 drives can make noise?

I recently replaced my boot SSD after it was failing on me. I replaced it with a M.2 SSD on my motherboard and now I get this very low humming sound when the drive is in use. I know it is that drive, as 1) this is new since the drive was installed and 2) I disconnected my other drives and it still makes this low hum sound that kind of makes my head ache.

Is this normal? Is it the motherboard making the noise when accessing the M.2 drive? I may have to return it for a SATA version if there is nothing I can do.

I'll try. I did disconnect the base speaker for a bit...then forgot to pay attention, as it's not constant. I'll try it with out any connection and see how it goes.

It appear to continue without the speakers connected. It's barely audible, but it sort of make my head vibrate.

wow.

never knew of an ssd to make noise.

With no caps or anything on the actual card, I assume it's a controller of sorts that is making the noise on my motherboard. Now I'm wondering if I should exchange the motherboard, or the SSD. If I exchange the SSD, it'll be for a normal Sata version.

My motherboard is up to date on firmware, and there is nothing for the M.2 drive (Samsung 850 evo 500gb m.2).

The M.2 SSD will be taking its power from the motherboard, so it could be some support component on the motherboard that the noise is coming from. The only way to tell is to get a replacement SSD, and see if the noise still remains.

I have a new theory. At the same time I installed my m.2 drive, my neighbor below me has decided their heater has to run 24/7 at God only knows how hot, and it appears that this has caused his heater to make a whiny noise through the flow of my apartment, right near my PC. This has gone on for a couple days, and has kept my apartment hot as well. It finally turned off this morning, so I'll see if I hear it again.
