I get the gyst, but there are small bits I don't understand

I don't know that there's a deeper meaning to that one. One of the better ones off the new album, though.

I haven't heard of They Might Be Giants since the mid 90's. So they've got a new album now?

As for New Slang, I think the narrator is a guy in his late teens (18-19) and filled with angst. He feels trapped in the town where he lives. This is a very small, isolated town somewhere in the American midwest. The factories have all closed and he has no money for college. He's afraid of being stuck there for the rest of his life. He has a crush on some local girl but, she doesn't know it. He just pines away for her in the shadows because he doesn't have the guts to confront her with his feelings. So he just goes on living in that Sh*thole of a town, all lonely and worried for the future, full of self loathing, with a desire to get out and carve out a better life for himself.

Since the 90's? Malcom in the Middle theme is TMBG (Boss of Me). So is the theme to Discover's Resident Life (Am I Awake?). But then again.. I watch too much TV.
