Reset the router and try and input the settings again... see and check if he has the right settings... if he has Windows XP type ipconfig /all in the DOS prompt if he hasn't already.

make sure you have the correct MAC address entered in the setup.

http://192.168.1.1--->Advanced Tab---->MAC Addr. Clone

Use the MAC addy from your network card on your puter....power cycle the cable modem...then power cycle the router.

Call the Linksys toll free number for support too.(800) 326-7114) You may be on hold for a bit, but they are helpful.

Thanks for the input! Sorry it took so long to respond. After 2 days of going through everything with Linksys and Adelphia he gave up. I made him bring his case to my house and hooked it up to my router. It still didn't work, it said it was checking proxy settings. I went into IE to check his settings. His LAN setting was on automatic. Proxy wasn't set BUT, it had garbage in the box and was greyed out. So I checked 'use proxy', said ok, went back and unchecked it and removed everything in the boxes. When I hit okay, A window comes up; You are no longer using a proxy, do you want to remove it? Or something to that affect. I said yes, restarted and went online! Took me 15 minutes, he was pissed, it was great!

reason it says use proxy is because when automatically detect settings is checked...it will look for a proxy anyhow. Make sure that under the connections tab, "never dial a connection" is selected...and under "LAN SETTINGS" button, you have no check boxes selcted at all...then you will not get that "detecting proxy settings" any longer...
