1) I had a GF4ti that died after a year and I was SOL on their "lifetime warranty" no replacement was available, EOL product. BS

2) Never received M.I.R of $50 on some flash memory or desktop memory, BS

EOL = Out of warranty ( they do this to trick people into buying stuff with so called "lifetime warranty" when they really mean 2 or 3 years or less)

once it hit's EOL it out of warranty

Yes

Early adoption/new hardware bug. I probably would have picked up a 5870 and played with it, but I kept telling myself Fermi would be launched any minute for Xmas. We know how that turned out.

How many 280's are you running? A single GTX 480 will give a decent boost, and even though it needs a lot of power, it will still use much less then dual GTX 280 😉 Enjoy the card 🙂

I assume XFX is the same? But what constitutes a product as EOL? No longer in production? Card becomes a legacy product? Company no longer stocking it? Other?

End Of Life is determined by the manufacturer. Then it's up to the company you ordered from. If they still have some in stock, give you comparative, give an upgrade credit, or tell you to sod off.

The top-tier vendors with lifetime warranties (XFX, EVGA, BFG) will usually give a comparable new card (If your 8800GTS640 broke and they had none they'd give you an 8800 or 9800GT for example), but I've heard of them giving like vouchers or coupons instead as well. Never heard of them saying you're SOL before
