Lunch Suggestions?

So I drive farm equipment during the summer for about 14 hours a day 6 days a week. I'm getting tired of the PB and J and ham sandwiches for lunch every day.

I want something that is easy to eat while driving and not too messy but I am open to all suggestions.

So any lunch suggestions for me? To those of you that pack your lunch, what do you take?

you're pretty much limited to sandwiches. make it more interesting. get different types of bread like sourdough, or rye, etc. get different meats to change flavors, roast beef, pastrami, salami, etc. use avocado instead of mayo. buy a bunch of different cheeses. i like provolone and swiss alot after i got tired of american singles. pack along a pickle spear, some peppercinis or jalepenos for some kick.

also, you can use your engine to heat up food as an alternative. just wrap it up well in foil. read up about that.
 
Try this for a change: roll into a whole wheat tortilla: turkey, provolone or swiss cheese, spicy sprouts (has radish sprouts mixed in with regular ones). When I was working long days days outdoors, I ate that a lot. Throw in some fresh fruit and veggies and something to drink and you have a lunch you can munch on from the seat of a tractor. 🙂

Edit: Don't roll it up like a burrito. Spread everything over the tortilla and roll it up so the filling isn't all together in the middle, but rolled with the tortilla. Cut it in half and package it tightly so it doesn't fall apart.
 
Cold fried chicken. Bring a mini cooler. I love grabbing a leg out of the fridge at eight in the morning. Heck, heat the food up & stuff it down a thermos with some mac n cheese. 🙂

That actually sounds pretty good.
 
Here's a little something that I like.

Ham, peppered turkey, provolone cheese, minced green & black olives, and garlic mayo spread on a sourdough roll.

 
What about MRE warmers to heat your food
They're sold separate form the MREs because of some federal statute
That's the same reason the MREs you buy at military surplus stores have clear wrappers instead of the tan ones

Anyways, they cost 50 cents as my local military surplus store.

You'd have to modify it a bit
Take the actual warmer tablet out of the bag and put it int a bigger one so you can put your food on the warmer
Actually, you could probobly just lay your lunch wrapped in tin foil on top of the warmer, and turn it every now and then

I'm in the same plight and currently taking cooking lessons to add some variety. You could pack some high protein bean dips (e.g., hummus) and eat that with crackers for a tasty lunch. Lots of different sandwiches you could mnake besides ham (try deboning a turkey, grilling it, and slicing the meat thin for a good sandwich hot or cold).

could always just pack a small personal stove in the back of your car. I have one that I take with me hiking and it folds flat down to 1 foot by 1 foot. You could use it to heat stuff up.

Thats exactly what I was thinking of!
 
I appreciate the suggestions but what some of you are suggesting is near impossible while driving that machine. Using a stove or taking the time to heat something up is a little hard while you are driving and trying to watch what you are cutting in front of you. 🙂

Any more suggestions?
 
I second the suggestion that someone made earlier about using a small thermos. You can fill a thermos with mac & cheese, chili, or spaghetti & meatballs.
 
Make those rice ball cakes. It's ez. Just cook a big tub of rice, set aside a few clumps of rice, put your favorite fillings in the center, form a ball with the rice with the filling enclosed in the center, wrap it up tight, leave in the fridge overnight, and there ya have it!
