Live tiles are simple notifications. They can only contain very limited numbers of characters/information and they are individual to the specific notification type (mail, texts, ect).

A true full featured notification center gives you much more information consolidated into one screen that you can take action on specific messages, emails, missed calls, ect. It's just a much more flexible and powerful tool than simple text on a tile.

Live tiles are great, but they aren't a replacement for a full notification center, especially if you have a lot of activity going on.

That makes more sense to me. Like I had said, I'm clueless on wth it was, let alone why it's so important. Can't miss something you never had I guess.

I still think if you take all of the strengths of the 8X, combine them with the tech of the 920 and then give it expandable storage and you one of the best smartphones on the market. Easily.

Yes....physical build of the 8x, internals of the 920, expandable storage...that would be incredible.

The rumor of the Ativ S originally was supposed to be a WP8 skinned Galaxy SIII. So you get a decent camera, large screen, removable battery and SD card slot. It's was the only higher end device that offered the combination of large screen + SD card reader.

But from what some of the leaks of the Odyessy have shown...it's a gimpy, chunky little 4" device that was more of a fat version of the S3 "Mini" than the bigger, svelte brother.

Do we know this though? The Ativ was AT&T only, the Odysessy is a Verizon only device?

But yes, the Ativ would as I understand it give a large screen, removable battery and an SD card slot. To me, that wins.

I got to play with a Lumia 920 today and all I can say is WOW. The phone is solid. It feels REALLY good and heavy. The screen is also a lot nicer than I thought it would be. I'm just not sold on Windows Phone yet. It honestly makes me feel like a loser since I have no interest in using Facebook, Twitter, or any social media. lol

Both look decent smart phones.

But if I want to give try to a windows phone, i'll go for HTC.

I like its design, its slimmer and looks better than lumia.

My understanding of Data Sense is that it's a suite of utilities and processes that run under the hood that aren't all controlled by the phone. When you browse with IE it's actually sending out two URL requests...one to the website and one to a server owned by MS that MS looks at and decides if it can pull it down first and compress before sending back to the phone. The compression is happening by a server owned by MS. It also will look for "roaming" wifi spots that it can auto connect to and manage data connections transparently to the user.

Given how tight and protective the US carriers are about their control over the devices and the way they manage data I'm sure that there was a lot of legal back and forth between MS & Big Red/Blue on this. The App is just easier to control than something baked in as an OS level toggle.
I think the program is an excellent idea and should be implemented at the OS level by Microsoft without interference of the carriers.
As long as there will be a way to temporarily disable it when not needed, I don't mind.
I don't want to be browsing my banking/financial information on someone else's wifi network or at a public wifi hotspot. Yes, I'm that paranoid.

Yeah but this is Windows Phone, not Android where where the carriers can pick and choose what they want to implement.

Android isn't immune to locked boot loaders and oddball carrier choices for launchers either. Plus I'm certain that that phones like the DNA are intentionally gimped by build specs given by Verizon to not include additional storage/expandable storage.

Umm...I think you read my statement wrong.
I'm actually agreeing with you on that.

Windows Phone is not supposed to be like that though.

Ah, ok. VZ still got their mitts into one setting on their WP8 devices though...no group reply option to SMS messages. AT&T phones have it.

Just got the 8X from Verizon: initial impressions on the hardware, works well. No thoughts on the OS so far, but I know I dislike the backstack/navigation model WP8 uses.
